The Westlake Leadership Academy

The Westlake Leadership Academy is available to anyone in the local business community who wants to develop and enhance their leadership capabilities. The Academy is composed of 10 separate educational workshops designed around the SERVE Leadership Model. The monthly workshops are on-going and will be held from 9:00am to 12:00pm on the first Friday of each month. Students may elect to purchase attendance to the entire 12-month series or on a class-by-class basis.

Michele Sweeten,CPA, founded the Sweeten CPA accounting firm in 2002 as a one woman operation. Since then she has grown the firm through her hard work and vision to a staff of 16 CPAs, accountants, and bookkeepers with over 500 clients in a wide array of industries including construction, retail, professional services, and education. Michele designed the accounting certificate program at Austin Community College, where she taught on a variety of small business topics to entreprenuers for 7 years
Lisa Bargsley, CPA, MBA has worked and consulted with small business owners and entrepreneurs on business systems management, work life balance, and federal income tax requirements for more than twenty five years. Similarly, she has worked with individuals in meeting their family’s federal income tax requirements as well as consulting with them when significant life events occur. Her real-world experience of owning a successful CPA practice is enhanced by having grown up in a family business. All of this has provided her with many stories that she easily incorporates into the many presentations she has given during her CPA career.
Today, Lisa is frequently invited to speak at business seminars and other functions. She has a unique style of bringing her real stories to life while speaking about the dynamics of family owned businesses, essentials of tax and accounting records, or decision making models and thinking tools. She believes that the crucial components for the foundation of a successful family business include defining the mission and vision of the business, developing leadership to uphold those values, and systematic and routine collection of financial data and its consistent communication to family members.
Lisa is passionate about helping entrepreneurs and small business owners to be successful in their businesses as well as helping individuals and organizations recognize and develop their leaders. This passion has led her to step away from the daily operations of the CPA practice and start a new company, Sage Speaking LLC.
Sage Speaking LLC was formed to bring ideas and real life stories together in fun and informative ways to enlighten entrepreneurs, leaders and individuals with tools and theories to manage their businesses and organizations better. Presentations and trainings are customized and designed in the areas of tax and accounting systems for small businesses and individuals, leadership development, systems theory, creative thinking, and motivation. Lisa shares her insights through her stories and introduces thought provoking theories encouraging those ah-ha moments.
Lisa holds an MBA degree from the University of Texas at Austin and has been licensed as a CPA in Texas since 1994. Lisa was recognized as the 1996 Distinguished Alumna of the Year at Thomas College located in Waterville, Maine and is where she earned a B.S. in Business Administration. Lisa is a Certified Trainer in the de Bono Thinking Systems, Six Thinking Hats, Lateral Thinking and Focus On Facilitation tools, and a Certified Trainer with Fred Pryor Seminars/CareerTrack. She has participated in a study group focused on Bowen Family Systems Theory and its relationship to leadership development and organizations. Lisa believes the combination of her academic education, her continued quest for knowledge in Bowen Theory and certifications in the de Bono Thinking Systems, her business and personal life experiences, provides for a unique training experience for participants.
Lisa is originally from upstate New York and now resides in Austin, Texas with Don Dudley, her husband. She enjoys gardening with Don at their Austin home as well as walking the beaches of Cape Cod where they have a summer cottage.
