The inaugural class of Leadership Westlake kicks off this January.  Many chambers of commerce sponsor a leadership program in their communities and time and again it’s proven successful at fostering relationships, building community loyalty, and preparing individuals to take their businesses to the next level.  What makes this program different from corporate leadership programs is that it goes beyond the textbook curriculums and theories.  You will be introduced to the movers and shakers in local government, get an inside look at school systems, meet the leaders of successful non-profits, and find out how their job is similar to and yet so very different from those in the corporate world.  We realize leadership is more of an art than a skill so you will get to meet with successful area businesses, tour their facilities, and ask them how they lead.  Learn the difference between leadership and management and how you might incorporate their successes into your own businesses.

The program is open to adults in the greater Westlake area, but the class is limited to only 20 people.  Applications are due by Tuesday, October 17th at the Chamber office.  It doesn’t matter if you are a small business owner or command a staff of 500.  The relationships you make and the information you glean will help drive both your individual and your organizational behavior towards your desired objective.

The inaugural program will run January 2018 through May 2018 with future programs running September to May.  After an initial overnight Leadership Retreat that includes personality assessments, team building activities, and more, there will be five full day sessions each on the 4th Thursday of the month.

One day will focus on the Local Economy with participants visiting local businesses to meet with the leaders that created successful organizations, and learn the “secrets of their success”.  Another day’s program will focus on Education with participants meeting leaders of the education community in Eanes School district, private schools, and non-traditional schools to understand local education issues.

Non-profit leaders will speak about the issues that face those organizations and learn about the roles community leaders play in their success.  Later, participants will meet with Government Officials at the City, County, and State level to understand more about issues facing local entities today.  The last program will feature leaders in Medical practices and Emergency services organizations.

Applications for the inaugural class will be accepted through Oct. 17th.  The retreat kicks off the program on January 18th and the first monthly session will be January 25, 2018.
